The second of two pieces created for a silent auction that will go towards funding Cloudsdale Congress. When it comes to iconic American imagery, there's few others that are as ingrained into our conscience as James Montgomery Flagg's rendition of Uncle Sam. Filling in for Sam here is Mayor Mare, and while she may not have fingers, I think the message still comes across pretty well. The colors of her coat and mane also make her a very natural stand-in for a human figure, not to mention her obvious political connections that made her the only one truly appropriate to draw here.
I don't often use large text in my drawings, but recreating the famous phrase there at the bottom of the image was fun to do. Making a few alterations to the outfit seemed pertinent in order to capture some of Mayor Mare's usual look, and so I went with a bright red cravat instead of a bow-tie. I'm also quite glad with how well her face turned out in this piece, though I had a little practice back during this year's Artist Training Grounds. I hope you like it!
